With Lobi Stars playing at home and needing the maximum points to secure their status in the league, they began the game leaving no doubt they wanted to cement their stay in the next season of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). They dominated play from the kickoff.

Barnabas Imenger Jr was first to get a sight on goal when his shot from Onuwa’s pass, could not find the back of the net despite being in a promising position.

Faud Ekelojuoti got to the end of Manu Garba’s flick but his quick reaction was halted by Endurance Edebediri.

Lobi Stars however took the lead in the 17th minutes when Barnabas Imenger Jr reacted fast to stab home John Lazarus cross as he threw the fans in Makurdi to joyous chants.

Wikki Tourists took the game to Lobi Stars as they responded with two quick goals from Salisu Ibrahim.

First was a header from Mustapha Abdullahi’s cross in the 37th minutes before an audacious shot from yards out three minutes later put the Bauchi Elephants ahead.

Lobi Stars got a late chance to level the scores before going for the half time but Ifeanyi Ogba’s shot was deflected for a corner as the referee signalled for the half time.

Lobi Stars equalized in the 60th minutes when Tony Agbaji coverted from the spot after Utim Godfrey was fouled in the box.

Wikki Tourists kept the home side at bay until the last moments when the referee pointed to the spot after Ifeanyi Ogba was upended in the penalty area.

Tony Agbaji effort from the resultant penalty was well timed by Galadima Mohammed but Utim Godfrey reacted quickest to poke home from the rebound as Lobi Stars secured the maximum points with a 3-2 win.

Reacting, Baba Ganaru of Lobi Stars attributed the win to the never say die attitude of his wards as they kept pressing till the very last minute of the game.

“It was a good game as we dominated the game but Wikki Tourists got back and stung us with an unexpected goal but we rallied back to win the game”.

”I commend my players as they showed a never say die attitude, we move to our next game”.

Coach Abdullahi of Wikki however decried the manner at which his side lost the game today.

“It was quite unfortunate that we lost today due to our loss of concentration but we have to move on to our next match”, the soft spoken Coach concluded.
