Obuh’s boys eye first win as Wikki visit Ilorin

Having endured a winless and scoreless start to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) campaign, Kwara United welcome Wikki Tourists to the Kwara State Stadium on Wednesday.
The Harmony Boys’ start to the season has failed to yield a win or goal in three matches – leading to question marks about the team’s staying power in the elite division.
An opening day 2-0 home loss to Niger Tornadoes was followed by away defeats against MFM and FC Ifeanyiubah and the team will also be without the services of defender Sunday Uchechukwu, who was sent off against the Anambra Warriors when they line up against Wikki.
Meanwhile, Kwara United boss John Obuh has acknowledged that the accident the team suffered days before the start of the season has affected them psychologically so far, but getting three points on Wednesday is now his immediate concern.
“We’re dealing with human psychology, even when the players have showed us that it is not going to be difficult for them to adjust after the accident,” Obuh stated.
“We’ve noticed that it affected them somehow, but we’ve got over it now.
“We just need a win to pick up. Once we’re able to get a win, we should be able to bounce back.”
Much has been made of United’s poor start to the season, and Obuh admits it is something that needs to improve.
“We have put the three losses behind us and we’ll make sure we get our first three points from Wikki.
“We are not going to do everything that’s wrong to win the game, but we’re going to do all that’s right to win because that’s the only solace we’re looking forward to,” said Obuh.
For Wikki Tourists, Bala Nikyu has steered the Bauchi-based side to two wins in three games this season and will be hoping to consolidate on their position on the log.
