Lokosa stars again as Kano Pillars dump Go Round 2-0

By Uchenna Iyoke

NPFL leading scorer Junior Lokosa once again got among the goals on Matchday 11 as he helped Kano Pillars run out 2-0 winners over new boys Go Round FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday.

Two second half goals by Alassan Ibrahim and Lokosa was all the former champions needed to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.

Chris Kpekpe handled the ball in the box ten minutes after restart off a cross by Victor Dennis, before Alassan stepped up boldly to send goalkeeper Victor Obiowo the wrong direction.

Lokosa tapped in from close range five minutes to regulation time to double their lead, after Mustapha Salisu delivered an inch perfect pass into Go Round’s box. It was the 10th goal from 11 games for the Pillars marksman.

Lokosa had earlier in the first half missed a penalty in the 29th minute after he was hacked down by Obiowo in the box. The Pillars striker failed to convert from the spot as Obiowo guessed right and saved his attempt. Also, Lokosa had a goal-bound effort hit the woodwork in the second period.

Go Round started on a brighter note through Morice Chukwu and Ugonna Ezenwaka, but their strikes went off the mark. Pillars waited until the 10th minute before their first breakthrough. Abdullahi Juli overlapped from the flank and his cross was nodded straight at Obiowo by Nyima Nwagua.

Alassan and Jamil Mohammed took turns to force Obiowo into saves, though the former almost drew the first blood on 42 minutes, but was unlucky to see his lob parried away by the Go Round goalkeeper. Shortly before the break Alassan’s shot from the flank was also kept out by the goalkeeper.

Go Round held their lines well into the break, but the second half became an all-offensive affair for the host team. Alassan blew a glaring chance three minutes after resumption with just Obiowo. Moments later Nwagua fired wide from close range after combining well with Jamil Mohammed.

The curtain raiser came when Victor Dennis’ cross was handled by Kpekpe. Alassan made good the opportunity to convert from the spot. Lokosa reached double figures after slotting in from Mustapha Salisu’s low drive.

Ezenwaka almost gave Go Round the leveller in the 72nd minute, his bullet of a shot was timely punched out by Pillars goalkeeper Danladi Isah.

Salisu made a super-sub appearance as most of his stylish touches earned applause by the ‘Sai Masu Gida’ fans, the young lad made the difference with several attacking moves and his attempt on 76 minutes was superbly saved by Obiowo.

The Kano club moved to top of the league table with 20 points from 11 matches. They will next play away to Yobe Desert Stars. Go Round FC dropped down to 19th with 10 points from a possible 30 and will host Sunshine Stars on Sunday.
