Enyimba head coach, Paul Aigbogun says he is delighted to have seen his side score twice in an NPFL game this season after they dug deep to defeat Sunshine Stars 2-1 at the UJ Esuene Stadium on Sunday.

The People’s Elephant had previously grind out wins by a goal margin in six out of previous matchdays, failing to score in three.

The seven-time champions have scored eight and conceded six in the current campaign, but were unable to put two behind any opposition, managing lone goal victories against Nasarawa United, Abia Warriors and Plateau United.

But Aigbogun is of the opinion that his side have put behind their challenges in front of goal, by scoring twice against the Akure Gunners. In a chat with, shortly after the fixture, the former Warri Wolves trainer described the win as a turning point.

“We are glad we scored more than once today (Sunday). We have not done that since the start of the season. It was a difficult game and we made the right changes, that brought us the result. It is a turning point for the team.

“The players are working very hard and doing what they ought to do. We have to put behind our challenges, but keeping the momentum is also key,” he said.

Stephen Chukwude (12th minute) and Ifeanyi Anaemena (70th minute) got the goals that earned Enyimba the victory, but the latter’s own goal drew the visitors level earlier in the second half.

Enyimba are still without the services of record NPFL goalscorer in a single season, Mfon Udoh, who is recovering from a knee problem.
