After Goalless draw, Enyimba’s Oladapo heaps praises on Nasarawa

A scoreless draw at home against Nasarawa United meant that former Champions, Enyimba International blew one of many opportunities to keep in close range of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) front runners.

The MatchDay 28 fixture in Aba saw the visitors from Lafia move to second spot on the log after Kano Pillars lost in Kaduna to local rivals, Jigawa Golden Stars.

The outcome while not flattering to his club, Enyimba captain Austin Oladapo told www.npfl.ng that their visitors deserved their point.

“It was a bad day for us and we must take it in good faith. It wasn’t an easy game, they did well to have held us to a goalless draw.

The People’s Elephant went into the game off a crucial win over Rangers on Thursday and a win over Nasarawa United would have taken them to within one point to their day’s opponent on the table but it was not to be as they were frustrated by the visitor’s dogged defensive display.

“We have to give them the kudos for that while we hope we get it right another time.” Oladapo stated further.

After a very cagey opening twenty minutes, the game soon started to open up and Nasarawa United almost got their noses in front in the 35th when defender Abiodun Adebayo lost his footing but Adamu Hassan effort was well saved by Enyimba goalkeeper John Noble.

Bala Nikyu’s Nasarawa indeed had the better of the first half and although Enyimba had the larger share or ball possession, the visitors threatened on more than one occasion and could easily have gone in front.

Enyimba however came back stronger in the second half and created a raft of scoring opportunities within the first fifteen minutes of the half but the trio of Victor Mbaoma, Gabriel Orok and Dare Olatunji all took turns to miss.

With just about ten seconds left on the clock, Enyimba missed a glorious chance to score in the fourth minute of extra time when Orok stole a march on Ebuka Anaekwe but the winger dragged his effort across the face of goal and beyond the despairing legs of Omoyele.
