Olukokun intent on hauling Nasarawa United away from danger

Nasarawa United forward Najeem Olukokun has a feeling of certainty that he can play a key role in helping his Lafia-based club beat the drop at the end of this Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) campaign.

Olukokun and his team-mates will be refreshed for a final charge with 14 rounds of matches to conclude the season but they start their bid for survival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu against seven-time winners Rangers on July 18, and Olukokun is self-confident they can pull the chestnuts out of the fire.

The 27-year-old striker knows they have a demanding schedule this July that includes Rangers (away), Go Round (home), Yobe Desert Stars (away) and Niger Tornadoes (home) but wants his team to take it “one game after another.”

He also recognizes that the Solid Miners are not safe yet despite occupying 11th position with 29 points, one above the drop zone.

“We know that we are not safe from the relegation fight yet. Our position looks good at the moment but the points difference with teams below us is not very wide as such. We still have to work hard and I believe we can help the club to safety at the end of the season,” Olukokun told npfl.ng.

“I have also looked at our matches for July and I must say we have a set of matches coming up. But we must focus first and take things one game after another. So we will be focused first on the game against Rangers before the other ones,” said Olukokun.

The former 3SC man however holds his own target for the season which he hopes can pull Nasarawa United from danger as well.

“My personal target is to reach double figures of goals this season and I pray this will help my team escape relegation,” he said.

Olukokun has scored seven goals and provided an assist for Nasarawa United this season.
