NPFL in numbers ahead Sunday’s matches

There have been more than 200 matches played in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this season though the goals per game still stands under two goals.

However, there have been some interesting stats this campaign that have lit the season including the impressive individual outing of Kano Pillars forward Junior Lokosa, Lobi Stars clinging to top spot in a bid to ape Plateau United’s feat last term and the best attempts of the chasing pack to trim the lead of the table-toppers.

Here are some of the stats in the NPFL so far:

0 – Nasarawa United not taken a single point on the road this season.

2 – Go Round goalkeeper Victor Obiowo has saved the most penalties. He saved one spot kick each against Junior Lokosa of Kano Pillars and El-Kanemi’s Samuel Mathias.

4 – Junior Lokosa has scored the most individual goals on the road — being four.

6 – Nasarawa United’s Kabir Balogun is the frontrunner for most assists this season at six assists.

7 – The number of longest winless run in the division. Bottom-placed Heartland and Wikki Tourists share this run with no wins in seven games each.

8 – This is the most number of goals conceded in the first 15 minutes of matches this season. This record is jointly held by Heartland and Nasarawa United.

9 – The most away points garnered so far this term. Table-toppers Lobi Stars and high-flying Niger Tornadoes have the most away points being nine. Also Tornadoes hold this season’s longest undefeated streak at nine.

10 – This season 10 away wins have been recorded.

11 – Makurdi club have stayed in number one position on the ranking for a total of 11 matchdays out of 22, which is five more than any other sides.

12 – Wikki Tourists have dropped the most points from winning positions this term. They have dropped 12 points, four more than any other team.

13 – Abia Warriors utility man Ndifreke Effiong who can play as a forward, midfielder and defender holds the record of scoring the fastest goal at 13 seconds. He achieved this in the 1-1 draw against Lobi Stars on Matchday 15.

15 – Lobi have scored first in 15 of their 21 games, the most by any side in this season’s campaign. Fifteen is also the most number of goals conceded by any team in only the second half of matches which is held by MFM FC.

18 – Kano Pillars forward Junior Lokosa has scored 18 goals and leads the leaderboard for individual scorers with nine goals more than the chasing pack.

22 – The most potent attacking pair of Junior Lokosa and Nyima Nwagua in the league have combined to score 22 goals, with the former netting 18 — 82% of the 22 goals.

31 – NPFL referees have issued 31 red cards so far.

34 – Katsina United have taken more points (34) after first half of their games, two more than the other teams.

53 – The number of penalties scored this season.

64 – The scoreline 1-0 is the most repeated in this campaign. It has occured 64 times.

98 – The total away number of goals is just two short of reaching 100.

144 – So far we have witnessed 144 calendar days in the NPFL with the last set of games being on May 30.

218 – The total number of matches played so far this season.

313 – The number of times home teams have scored.

400 – The 400th goal of this campaign was scored by last season’s top scorer Anthony Okpotu when he curled home a freekick to secure a 1-0 win for Lobi over Enugu Rangers.

411 – The total number of goals recorded in the NPFL this season.

796 – The number of yellow cards issued this season by referees.
