MFM FC continue smooth home run, beat Wikki Tourists

Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries FC continued their fine home form on Wednesday at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium after claiming a 2-1 win over Wikki Tourists in one of Matchday 6 fixtures of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

MFM FC dominated early in the game with Olatunbosun Sikiru winning the first free kick of the match after three minutes of play but Okorom Stanley’s effort from the free kick could not beat Wikki Tourists goalkeeper, Sani Haliru.

The Olukoya Boys continued with absolute dominance creating chances at will. MFM FC took the lead in the 6th minute when Adebayo Waheed put the ball beyond the reach Wikki’s goalie off an assist from Akila Jesse after a counter attacking display orchestrated by Onuwa Chukwuka.

Shammah Paul Tanze was brought down by Abisoye Olawale inside MFM FC’s box on 15 minutes and the centre referee sounded his whistle for a penalty. Nafiu Kabuga converted the spot kick and put his team back into the lively game.

MFM FC regained the lead in the 40th minute of the exciting encounter when Akila Jesse tapped in Adebayo Waheed goal-bound attempt. The first 45 minutes ended with the Olukoya Boys maintaining a 2-1 lead.

The second half of the game saw MFM FC carving out chances but they failed to make their effort count in front of goal.

Wikki goalkeeper rescued his team when he punched Olatunbosun curling free kick in the 62nd minute of the exchange to the path of Akila after an infringement on Onuwa but the former could not hit the target with his last kick of the ball.

Onuwa had a chance to register his name in the score sheet eight minutes after Olatunbosun’s attempt but his side footed strike was blocked by the away team’s defence.

The game should have ended 3-1 for the hosts but Adebayo Waheed missed a glorious opportunity in the 85th minute of the thrilling match after receiving a well tailored pass from Nojeem Akinyemi.

After the 2-1 win, MFM FC and Wikki Tourists are tied on same points (9) but the latter sit in 8th position while the former occupy the 9th spot on the table after six NPFL matches.
