How our love story began, says Mrs Agba

“Marriage is a mosaic you build with your spouse. Millions of tiny moments that create your love story.” - Jennifer Smith

This is akin to what Samuel and Faith Agba’s love story is all about as different mosaics of the good, the weird and the incredible all came together to form a beautiful love fresco.

She looked extremely happy as she danced her way towards the huge white cake that was placed in front of a pew decorated like folding arms. It was her big day, she had every reason too.

Faith Anastasia Agba had just tied the knot with Niger Tornadoes striker Samuel Agba, a love story that could fit for a Nollywood hit.

The pair met when Faith was quite young to understand what love meant. Almost a decade later, she was at the Power Embassy Church, Mando, Kaduna exchanging vows with the striker whom she described as "humble and God fearing."

“I met him when I was very young. In fact when both of us were young. That was in 2008. At that time he used to call me ‘my small wife’ but we both didn’t even know what a husband and wife was because of our ages then,” she told

“My husband (Agba) was just as little as I was then so I never took it seriously till we met again about six years later. It was a neighborhood type of meeting which I never thought will lead to marriage. I had no idea what love or marriage was then.

“I was quite surprised when I realized he had been looking for me for all those years even though he had become a professional football player and was always away from Kaduna where we first met.

“To be honest with you I didn't take him seriously at first because I thought he was still joking like in the past even though we were both matured when we reunited. It took me almost a year to finally see that he is a good man and had noble intentions.

“It was at that point I decided to be with him and after two years, he proposed to me and I agreed to be his wife.

“My husband is a kind and compassionate man and he always listens to me when I try to talk to him. He is not the proud type, he is humble, gentle and God-fearing that is why I decided to spend the rest of my life with him,” narrated Faith, whose next love after the husband is art and interior decoration.

The newly-wed also enthused that her marriage to Samuel will help his career grow because he has her in his corner to support and encourage him to do better and will know that there is someone special who is rooting for him.

“I’ll do everything I possibly can to encourage and motivate him to be a better footballer and husband. I love him very much and I want to see him excel in his chosen career,” Mrs Agba said.

“It is a new beginning for me and my husband. It isn’t the New Year yet but a new year has started for me and him. It will be the beginning of better things to come for his football career and life generally. I hope to be a blessing to him and our home so that his career can go to the next level.

“I’m currently a student of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria studying Surveying and Geo-Informatics. I hope to be through with my studies by the end of the year by God’s grace and then get something to do to help my husband or I might even start a business,” she added.

Fellow Nigeria Professional Football League players were on hand to support the couple during their wedding. Waziri Christopher of Wikki Tourists, Reuben Bala of Plateau United, Thomas Zenke of Nasarawa United and Timothy Simon alongside other grassroots footballers and administrators were there to grace the occasion.
