Goals from Samuel Oyedeji and Wasiu Alalade ensured ABS FC got maximum points against visitors, Remo Stars in one of Matchday 33 games in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at the Kwara State Complex Stadium, Ilorin on Sunday.
Saraki Boys settled into the game early from a corner kick after Tunde Adekunle saved Eugene Ossy's shot but Alalade's attempt went wide.
The visitors came close to going ahead after David Onovo was brought down close to the box and Victor Mbaoma's free kick went narrowly off target.
ABS FC went ahead from the spot after Remo Stars goalkeeper Adekunle brought down Oyedeji inside the box. Oyedeji picked himself up and brilliantly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to open scoring.
The Sky Blue Stars battled their way into the game after conceding. Onovo made a run with the ball to locate Mbaoma before sending in a cross which went out of range.
Again Onovo made a good run past Ebuka Anaekwe to locate Mbaoma but ABS goalkeeper Abdullahi Boje rushed off his line to narrow down the angle as the Sky Blue Stars could not convert.
Towards the closing minutes of the first half, Ekene Awazie and Mbaoma combined well from Onovo's play. The final touch by Mbaoma just could not beat Boje between the sticks for ABS.
Abubakar Chindo should have extended the lead for the hosts from a brilliant pass but he ballooned the ball.
The hosts started the second half in style but Ossy played wide before Adeshina Gata also aimed an attempt which went wide.
Saraki Boys came close yet again through Chindo from a loose ball after Adekunle punched Adeshina Gata's shot.
Awazie was wonderful for the Sky Blue Stars through the game. His brilliant display was however insufficient to help Remo Stars equalise.
It was the hosts who were close to extending the lead yet again with a rebound from Ossy but Adekunle kept out the attempt to still leave the score at 1-0 to ABS.
It was a story of both sides wanting to prove a point with ABS trying to extend their lead to be comfortable and the visitors busy looking to level.
On the dot of full time, Ibrahim Abdullahi missed a glorious chance to extend the lead. He anxiously ballooned the ball when he could have done better with his final touch.
Awazie and Remo Stars debutant Obi Jerry combined would later combine well and the Sky Blue Stars almost levelled matter but Boje's last-gasp save denied them.
ABS would have the final say in the game when Alalade finally extending the lead from Ibrahim Ahmed's cross in stoppage time.
The victory have helped ABS FC to leave the relegation waters for now while the Sky Blue Stars remain bottom of the table.
