Trends to expect on Matchday 32

By George Akpayen

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is already in its home stretch and the boys are gradually being separated from the men. However ahead of Matchday 32 we capture stats that could become possibilities at the end of the 10 matches billed to hold this Sunday.

3 - Sunshine Stars could become the first club in the modern era to win three away games on the bounce. They have already won back-to-back at ABS FC and Rivers United. The Akure Gunners play at Wikki Tourists this Sunday.

4 - If bottom-placed Remo Stars fail to defeat MFM at home this Sunday, they will have managed four successive home matches without a win. That will leave them within another home game (against Rivers United on Matchday 34) of equalling Ikorodu United's five straight home games without a win last season.

6 - Relegation-threatened Shooting Stars will seek to extend their unbeaten run to six. They hold the current longest unbeaten streak of five matches ahead of their trip to Jos where they will face league leaders Plateau United.

8 - Remo Stars are in danger of becoming the club with the longest run without a win this season if they fail to defeat southwest rivals MFM FC at the Gateway Stadium in Sagamu. The Sky Blue Stars have managed three draws and four losses in their last seven matches.

9 - The NPFL this season is just nine goals away from equalling the 622 goals scored after Matchday 32 last season.

10 - Seven-time champions Enyimba, Wikki Tourists and table-topping Plateau United are aiming to win 10 home matches on the spin apiece. So far the three clubs are currently on the longest winning home run of nine successive wins each. El-Kanemi hold the longest run for the season at 11.

13 - One, or all three of goalkeepers Suraj Ayeleso (Nasarawa United), Mustapha Aliko Salihu (Niger Tornadoes) and Olorunleke Ojo (Akwa United) are in line to reach 13 individual clean sheets this season. They jointly lead the race for the golden gloves with 12 clean sheets each.

16 - Another three points on the board for Plateau United should they defeat Shooting Stars at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos on Sunday will mean they will have taken 16 more points at this stage (Matchday 32) compared to last season's 42 points.

28 - Irrespective of the outcome in their Matchday 32 fixture against Shooting Stars, league leaders Plateau United are guaranteed a top spot place for the 28th time out of the 32 matchdays. MFM have been top on the other four matchdays.

58+ - Enyimba striker Mfon Udoh would take his total all-time goals in the NPFL to 58, or more, if he scores against Kano Pillars.

70 - Enyimba could go 70 matches without defeat at home if they avoid defeat, or beat rivals Kano Pillars at the UJ Esuene Stadium this Sunday. Abia Warriors were the last time to beat them at home in the NPFL.
