Bashir pops up with winner in Nasarawa Utd's first away success

By Idowu Bakare

Striker Abdulrahman Bashir scored the only goal of the game as Nasarawa United beat Sunshine Stars 1-0 in a Matchday 29 game of the NPFL at the Dipo Dino Stadium on Sunday.

The win represents Nasarawa United's first away win of the season - making them the 11th team to win on the road this term.

Bashir produced the moment of the contest when he put the ball past onrushing Sunshine Stars goalkeeper Henry Ayodele in the 39th minute, after Aminu Kadir picked him out with a pass.

Sunshine Stars bossed the match with their possession style of play, but failed to convert the numerous chances that came their way.

Nassarawa United goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso was also at his best, pulling off a world-class save from Thompson Ezekiel in added time to record his 12th clean sheet of the season.

In the 41st minute Sunshine Stars almost equalised after Ayeleso spilled an attempt at goal but immediately made amends to parry Sunday Abe's rebound. Ajibola Otegbeye and Dayo Ojo of Sunshine Stars also hit the woodwork once each to the relief of Ayeleso and the Nasarawa United contingent.

Two minutes into added time Nasarawa United's Bashir failed to convert after rounding the goalkeeper, a miss that should have killed the game off as a contest.

Nasarawa United's next game is against El-Kanemi Warriors in Lafia, while Sunshine Stars are away to Rivers United on Wednesday.
