Dufegha Eric was the hero this rainy evening in Shagamu as relegation troubled Remo Stars grabbed an 89th minute winner against Katsina United at the Gateway Stadium.
As has been the case in their previous home matches, Remo started with promise asking questions right from kick off and subjecting the Katsina defence to huge pressure. The visitors however looked determined to return to Katsina with a point.
David Onovo and Mbaoma Victor pressured the Katsina defense even more with shots in quick succession. Katsina United, goalkeeper, Danjuma Danladi Paul was however up to the task, keeping his team from conceding.
The 25th minute saw Fatai Osho's men winning a free kick in a favorable position after Chidume Victor was brought down. Again, Katsina United stood strong to keep the fiery attack at bay.
The first booking of the game went the way of Katsina United's Yushau Garba after bringing Salefu Ochowechi down.
The game intensified on 45 minutes with a lovely through pass from Remo Stars' Mbaoma to Awazie Ekene who failed to convert, to the horror of the fans.
Remo Stars started the second half as they did the first, creating chance after chance. Katsina United could barely leave their own half with the Sky Blue Stars mounting the pressure.
On the 67th minute, a just introduced Dufegha Eric made a solo run past the Katsina United defence but played right into goalkeeper Danladi's hands.
Finally, super sub Dufegha broke the deadlock on the 89th minute to give the hosts the much needed lead. Seconds after, a brawl erupted between players of both teams leading to the sending off of Remo's Oknuoghae Osas.
After 4 minutes of added time, the home side emerged victorious to the joy of the fans.
Coach Fatai Osho expressed his delight in the hard fought win, saying the team's mental toughness paid a huge part in the win.
