By Uchenna Iyoke

Elkanemi Warriors of Maidugiri put up a spirited effort to beat Lobi Stars of Makurdi 2-1 in a Match Day 28 fixture of the Glo Premier League decided at the Karkanda Stadium in Kastina.

Emmanuel Agali fired from close range to open scores for the host on 21st minute while Ogu Michael latched on to Achive Douglas through pass to level scores four minutes into resumption. Substitute Ifeanyi Mathew scored the match winner from a goalmouth scramble on the 74th minute.

The Warriors were dominant for most part of the first 45 minutes with Chinedu Ohanacho causing series of panic moments for the visitors. However, it was his guile on the ball and a low cross that freed Agali to raise the curtain. Ohanacho would then attempt a close range header that was saved by goalkeeper Terkaa Melai moments later.

The first stanza ended with the host a goal up but it was Lobi Stars that returned from the break the stronger side. The introduction of Michael Ogu yielded positively as he equalized with a perfect placing to the right of goalkeeper George Michael of Elkanemi. Ogu made other promising attempts that forced goalkeeper Michael to several saves as Lobi pressed on for a win. What was initially celebrated as a goal by Lobi Stars from an Akalechi Enokela's effort was ruled out for offside. Another effort to go in front through a shot by Douglas was well saved by Michael.

Elkanemi Warriors last moment push gifted them all three points with Mathew scoring the match winner.

The Warriors will now travel to Oghara for a date with Bayelsa United on match day 29 while Lobi Stars host wikki Tourist on Sunday 13th september.
