Bosso narrates how Kone put aside family tragedy to net hat-trick
At FC Ifeanyiubah, Yaya Kone is one of several foreign players featuring in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) this season and Matchday 14, the Ivorian plundered three goals in a single game for the first time since he joined the Anambra Warriors.
Kone’s three goals ensured that FC Ifeanyiubah put title-holders Plateau United to the sword as they cruised to a three-nil win. FC Ifeanyiubah head coach Ladan Bosso has taken time to lift the lid on the struggles that his Ivorian import has had to brave in recent months including bereavement.
Bosso in a chat with npfl.ng disclosed that it would only take a true professional to undergo what the Ivorian striker had gone through in recent times and still played the excellent way he did against the champions.
He revealed that the forward lost both his parents in quick succession early this year. This followed a 12-game ban that was clamped on him along with other players of the Anambra Warriors for
their unruly behaviour in their away loss to Niger Tornadoes last season before the suspension was lifted recently.
“I can say that Yaya Kone is a true professional for the way he has been playing for us despite his recent personal and family challenges,” Bosso told npfl.ng.
“This was a player whose father and mother died not too long ago almost at the same time this year and he was also the same player that was banned for 12 matches by the league organizers but he has come out of his challenges impressively and I must commend him.
“After the ban was lifted by the LMC, we did a lot of talking to him that he should forget about his past and think of how he could turn his misfortune to something positive and that is what he has
done with the way he played against Plateau United.
“His performance against the league champions showed that he has braved the challenges of his misfortune and he is concentrating on the game he loves best.”
Bosso, however wants Kone and his players to remain consistent throughout the season as it is their only undoing in the league this season which has made them languish in the lower half of the table.
“Our only problem since the league season started is that we have not managed to remain consistent. We have not managed this type of performance before now. I want to appeal to the players to concentrate
on what they are here for and try to ensure that we are at the place we ought to be on the league table.
“Our present position in the league table is not befitting for us if we are serious with our desire to qualify for the continent at the end of the season. We must do something fast about it to ensure that we
remain consistent over a long period of time,” he concluded.
FC Ifeanyiubah are currently occupy 12th place on the standings and will play on the road at Kano Pillars on Matchday 15 this Wednesday.
