Ayagwa, Omoyele score as Plateau United halt Kwara United’s streak

A goal in each half from Tosin Omoyele and Raphael Ayagwa were all Plateau United required to run out 2-0 winners on Thursday and also end the five-match unbeaten run of Kwara United under new coach, Abubakar Bala.
Omoyele gave the home team the lead in the 20th minute as he sprung the offside line to beat Kwara United defence before slotting in a low drive beyond goalkeeper Jonah Usman for the opener.
The former Osun United man had a say in the second goal as he was fouled in the box by Saidu Idris after the striker had dribbled his way into the vital area before he was fouled. Ayagwa stepped up and expertly converted the penalty with less than ten minutes remaining in the game.
Ayagwa expressed confidence that Plateau United will return to the continent following their exit in CAF’s two club competitions – the Champions League and later in the Confederation Cup playoff.
“Our resolve is to return to continental football after we lost out. This is what informed our determination to win this game and we are ready to win our subsequent rescheduled games,” said the ex-Lobi Stars man.
Kwara United head coach, Bala Abubakar was full of praise for the champions who brought to an end his unbeaten start as manager of the Ilorin club.
Bala rued his team’s failure to take their scoring chances in the game which looked balanced at some point until goals from Omoyele and Ayagwa sealed victory for the title-holders.
“The team is not a pushover and it is evident in their game but we could not convert our chances especially in the first half,” said Bala.
