Enyimba FC assistant coach, Usman Abdallah has made assurances that the People’s Elephant will drop no further points in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) before the World Cup break.
The seven-time champions are scheduled to play hosts to Katsina United this Sunday in Calabar and that will be followed three days later with a rescheduled fixture against Heartland at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri in an Oriental Derby.
Abdallah, who has stepped in on different occasions as interim head coach in the absence of Paul Aigbogun whenever he is on international duty with the Nigeria Under-20s, made the declaration to npfl.ng, after the Aba side edged league leaders Lobi Stars of Makurdi by a lone goal in a rescheduled NPFL Matchday 21 fixture played at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar on Wednesday.
“We are all satisfied, even though we had expected victory. We are all happy. At least it will help us to catch up, because we have a lot of teams to catch up (with). We also dropped lots of points at home, so we can’t afford to drop any more point, before the break.
“We had a target of nine points before the break from our three games, we have gotten three; (there are) six more remaining (against Katsina United and Heartland).
“We won’t allow the victory over the league leaders occupy us. We have a lot of work to do. We will keep going this way, hopefully we will catch up with them,” he posited.
Abdulrahnan Bashir got Enyimba’s goal on 51 minutes, in a game that was characterized with the sending off of the visiting coach, Solomon Ogbeide for dissent.
Enyimba go into their next match this weekend occupying sixth position on the NPFL ranking with 34 points, seven behind league leaders Lobi Stars.
